What's your ten digit Metro phone number? I didn't get that. Please enter your phone number including the area code."
If you are a Metro customer, please press star. If you're a Metro authorized dealer, please enter your dealer code now."
Calling Metro PCS isn't very effective unless you happen to be an actual customer, thanks to how the automated system blocks non-customers. When I dialed this number, I was directed to enter my Metro PCS dealer number or hit the star key if I was a Metro PCS customer. As neither applied to me, I opted to wait.
I was again asked to enter a dealer number, and I again declined to make an entry. At this point, the system said it could not help me if I didn't enter a number and hung up.
I decided to call back to see what would happen if I posed as a customer. I was only able to get as far as the next menu after hitting the star key, as the system asked me for my 10-digit Metro PCS phone number. Not having a Metro PCS number, I again couldn't make a valid entry, and the system again hung up on me.
With this being the case, it's impossible for me to get an honest read on whether or not the customer service for this number is effective. A search of the number suggests that it's not meant for the average person to use, as it's a number that's instead used for dealers to get support. The number is available 24 hours a day, and it seems like it works well to keep unwanted traffic away from the number.
Another positive is that it offers customers a real option to get to someone who can help. It's tough to be completely sure if the number works because I couldn't complete the transfer. Still, the automated system seems effective in moving customers to another aspect of Metro PCS' service team. As long as it eventually connects, it would be a good thing to get customers who dial this number unintentionally to the right person.
Given that Metro PCS doesn't advertise this number, it's difficult for me to fault them for setting up multiple chokepoints. The company wants to limit wait time for the people who need to speak to them, which can be one of the best ways to do that. By not permitting questions from people who aren't already customers, Metro PCS can ensure that only existing clients spend meaningful time talking to customer representatives.
Obviously, I do not recommend using this number unless you are a genuine customer or dealer of Metro PCS. You won't be able to get anything from here unless you have an existing relationship with Metro PCS.
