Tap Remove Freeze or Temporarily Lift Freeze

If your account is frozen, you will see two options: to remove the freeze on your account or temporarily lift the freeze.

If you remove a freeze, lenders and other companies can access your credit file. Those who don't want lenders to have permanent access to their credit report may choose to temporarily lift the freeze. Just tap the second option and enter the dates you wish the lift to occur. Note that there's no fee for temporarily lifting the freeze on your account.

For parents, they can also freeze and unfreeze their child's credit. To put a freeze on their credit, submit a written request for a "protected consumer freeze" if it's a minor, along with proof of authority documentation. This documentation shows that you have the authority to act on behalf of a minor dependent. You can submit an order issued by the court of law, a document issued by the local government or state, or a valid power of attorney. You must also provide your Social Security number, birth certificate, and driver's license. You can contact TransUnion to learn more about this.

Tap Continue

Click continue if you want to remove the freeze, or click Temporarily Lift Instead if you change your mind.

Wait for the Confirmation

After confirming the freeze removal, wait for the message that says your credit freeze has been removed. When the freeze is removed, lenders can view your credit if you apply for a loan or credit card.

You can also remove a freeze by calling TransUnion or sending them a written request. Remember to include your complete name, address, and social security number, and send the request to their P.O. Box address.

Conclusion

As mentioned, you can also freeze or unfreeze credit by phone, and the process takes effect immediately. However, while a credit freeze is similar to a credit lock, the latter is a feature of credit monitoring services and may not be free. Also, remember that you won't be able to apply for credit when it's frozen. If you're considering getting a mortgage or a credit card, consider temporarily unfreezing your account first. Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for TransUnion Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
