What is the difference between loose tea and tea bags?

Asked 6 months ago
Loose tea and tea bags are two distinct forms of tea with notable differences in quality, taste, and brewing experience. Loose tea consists of whole or large tea leaves, allowing for the retention of essential oils and flavors. This results in a richer, more complex taste and aroma. It offers the opportunity to personalize your tea strength by adjusting the amount used. On the other hand, tea bags are filled with broken or small tea leaves, often referred to as dust or fannings. These leaves have a larger surface area, leading to a quicker and stronger infusion. While tea bags are more convenient and quicker to brew, they generally yield a less flavorful cup compared to loose tea. Loose tea also provides more variety and options as it allows for blending different teas or adding herbs and spices.
