How Do I Recover a Hacked Fidelity Investments Account?

You've taken additional steps to protect your Fidelity account, but it gets hacked anyway. What do you do next? How do you recover a hacked Fidelity Investments account? You can find out more about account security by calling Fidelity Investments customer support, and below are steps to take when your account has been hacked.

Recovering Your Hacked Fidelity Investment Account

It's important to recover your account as quickly as possible once you've discovered it's been compromised.

Resetting Password

The most common way to recover the account is to reset the password, which can be done by doing the following:

  1. Open Fidelity Investment's website and go to the login page.
  2. Click "Forgot Password/Need Help."
  3. Add your email address and click "Submit."
  4. Check your inbox for a message from Fidelity and click the reset password link within the message.
  5. Choose a new, stronger password.
  6. Set up two-factor authorization at this point to add another layer of security to your account.
  7. Update the password for your email account in the event it was also compromised by hackers.

When Hackers Change Your Email and Phone Number Along With the Password

Sometimes hackers will not just change your password. They may also reset your email address and phone number to one they can access to delay or prevent account recovery. When this happens, take the following steps:

  1. From the same device you used to open your Fidelity Investment account, open the Fidelity page and click "Help" or "Contact Us" at the bottom of the screen. You can also opt to email Fidelity Investment Support.
  2. Fill out the contact form that opens, making sure you add "Account Issues" as the reason for reaching out.
  3. Complete the form using the email address used to open the account and any other identifying information.
  4. Detail when you noticed the account had been hacked and the steps you've taken to recover it.
  5. Include screenshots if possible. Email is an excellent method of contact to include screenshots.
  6. Select "Submit/Send."

Fidelity will get back in touch with you as quickly as possible to resolve the issue. You can hear from an agent within hours or days, depending on the volume of issues. Once you've reached out to Fidelity Investments, run a malware or virus scan on your devices to ensure there is nothing running in the background. You may also need to reset your device to factory settings to remove malicious software.

Securing your account as quickly as possible once you've realized it has been hacked will prevent further loss. For more information or assistance securing your account, contact Fidelity Investments customer support.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for Fidelity Investments Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
